Join Rafael Payare, a string quartet of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians, Venezuelan writers Enza Garcia Arreaza and Oriette D'AngeloPSO Associate Conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong, facilitator, for a program that confronts Venezuela’s artistic culture in its ever changing political and social landscape.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians  Dennis O’Boyle, violin, Kelsey Blumenthal, violin, Joen Vasquez, viola, and Alexandra Thompson, cello, will perform three pieces by Venezuelan composer Orlando Cardozo. These works were inspired by the culture and challenges of living in Venezuela.  Two Venezuelan writers, Enza Garcia Arreaza and Oriette D’Angelo will perform readings that reflect upon the artistic vibrancy and struggles of their homeland. Venezuelan conductor

Rafael Payare will give insights into the PSO’s upcoming premiere of Inocente CarreƱo’s sweeping and spirited MargariteƱa, exploring the work’s expressive Venezuelan folk melodies and rhythms.
