The first rehearsal of 58 high school students from across the region for the 2018-2019 EQT Student Side-by-Side program. was Monday, Feb. 18. EQT Side-by-Side gives student musicians in grades 9-12 the experience of rehearsing and performing “side-by-side” with their Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra counterparts on the Heinz Hall stage. Participants receive personal coaching from their PSO stand partners and enhance their knowledge of the music field. Additional program highlights include group sectionals and workshops with Pittsburgh Symphony musicians and full orchestra rehearsals.

This year’s EQT Side-by-Side concert will take place on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Heinz Hall under the baton of Associate Conductor Earl Lee.. Repertoire will include:
Khachaturian: Masquerade Waltz
Bizet: Selections from Carmen
Elgar: “Nimrod” from the Enigma Variations
Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien

Students are selected for the EQT Side-by-Side program based on responses provided in their completed applications, with particular emphasis placed on the teacher recommendation section.
